چکیده

In this paper, we investigate the performance of transmit diversity technique operating in IS-136 T D M A systems where the Doppler frequency can be as high as 184Hz. Transmit diversity transforms a pat fading channel into a frequency selective fading channel, thus we use finite length decision feedback equalizers to estimate the desired signal at the receiver. The channel parameters are trained via the training symbols and tracked using decision-directed symbols. It is shown that systems with transmit diversity can provide a significant performance improvement over systems without transmit diversity for Rayleigh pat fading channels when the Doppler frequency is less than 40 Hz; however for systems with high Doppler frequency, transmit diversity alone cannot totally mitigate the fast fading effect since the effects of the channel estimation errors may cancel the benefit of the transmit diversity.

Transmit Diversity Vs Beamforming for Multi-User OFDM Systems

In an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system, downlink beamforming can be implemented either before IDFT (frequency domain) or after IDFT (time domain) module in a base station transmitter. We denote the former scheme as PreIDFT downlink beamforming, and the latter as Post-IDFT downlink beamforming. In this work, we have compared Pre-IDFT downlink beamforming with Space-Time B...

Review and Implications of Time Division Multiple Access Techniques for Wireless Environment Services and Applications

Time division multiple access (TDMA) is a channel access method for shared medium (usually radio) networks. It allows several users to share the same frequency channel by dividing the signal into different timeslots. The users transmit in rapid succession, one after the other, each using his own timeslot. This allows multiple stations to share the same transmission medium (e.g. radio frequency ...

EDGE: enhanced data rates for GSM and TDMA/136 evolution

Two of the major second generation standards, GSM and TDMA/1361, have built the foundation to offer a common global radio access for data services. Through use of a common physical layer, EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for GSM and TDMA/136 Evolution), both standards will have the same evolutionary path towards providing third-generation services. EDGE is currently subject to standardization in TIA T...

Spatial–Temporal Equalization for IS-136 TDMA Systems with Rapid Dispersive Fading and Cochannel Interference

In this paper, we investigate spatial–temporal equalization for IS-136 time-division multiple-access (TDMA) cellular/PCS systems to suppress intersymbol interference and cochannel interference and improve communication quality. This research emphasizes channels with large Doppler frequency (up to 184 Hz), delay dispersion under one symbol duration, and strong cochannel interference. We first pr...
